One Year Old – Happy Blogiversary

According to my Facebook memories today my blog is one year old, happy blogiversary to my little site.  That creeped up on me awfully suddenly lol.

At first I used, changing to self hosting in earlier this year.  I had been blogging previously under a completely different domain.  I wasn’t fully happy with that domain and the posts I was creating, I was in the wrong mindset so I scrapped it and decided to try a new blog name, title and direction for my post.  No longer would I worry about what I would post.  I would post whatever and whenever I liked and that is what I have done for this past year.

This Passed Year

I’ve realised that blogging is whatever I want it to be, I can write about anything from my struggles with depression and anxiety.  my chronic illness and blindness to parenting and everything that is in-between.  Which is what I have been doing.

Surprisingly my most popular post in terms of views was The Lady Boys Of Bangkok Review and the second most popular being Costochondritis – How It Really Feels.  I’ve published 37 posts which have received almost 1000 views with 474 visits mostly in the UK, USA and Canada but there have been views from other countries.

In the year that I started this new blogging journey I’ve learned so much more than I had in my previous blog incarnations.  Here are some of the things that I’ve learned.

Engagement Is Important

This for me has been key and although I have a small following I am working on increasing it.  I’ve become comfortable plugging my posts on social media, whereas before I was embarrassed, I thought people would think I’m annoying or up myself, but a blogging friend helped me see this isn’t the case.  I probably should still be a little more social media happy but I am getting there slowly but surely.

I joined several Facebook groups where I can share my posts and talk to other bloggers which has been really helpful as I have gotten tips and ideas, connected with other blogs I may not have considered reading before.  I’ve even got a couple of guest posts in the work for other blogs which I am excited and nervous about.

Before I wasn’t a big planner or scheduler, I’ve found though that if I plan my months posts ahead I’m more focused, although these posts aren’t set in stone and are subject to change, either being postponed or scrapped completely.

I have a notebook on me or close at all times, in case inspiration hits, the amount of times I’ve thought of an idea then forgotten it as I didn’t write in down, thanks fibro fog or is that mummy brain, who knows.

I’ve made the decision that if I am not 100% happy with what I am writing about I’m not posting it.

What Next?

I’m hoping that I can continue to grow my site as I grow as a mother, as I turn 40 next year (weeps into keyboard) and learn more about photo editing, SEO, my writing style and get to know my readers.I would love to hear of any tips you have learned through blogging that you would like to pass on.

Thank you so much to all of the those who have taken the time to read, comment, like and follow my site and on my social media links.  It means the world to me.
