During my latest trip into the Glasgow with my mum, auntie and cousin we went to One Up on Royal Exchange Square for a bite to eat and some adult beverages. We enjoyed ourselves so much I decided to write about our experience.
One Up is situated on the first floor, meaning it’s not accessibility friendly. It looks small when you walk in, it is in fact surprisingly spacious. With booths at the front of the bar, as well as private function rooms which include a party pod for a private kararoke party, Bar 2 which would be ideal for intimate gatherings and The Club which can cater for parties up to 110 people.
As it’s a burger bar there is a good variety of burgers available, which all come with fries. The other food choices are limited with 2 salads, sharing platters and small plates for those who aren’t looking for a big meal.
I forgot to photograph our food and our first round of drinks (rookie mistake). I had a pork and chorizo burger with cheese which came with lettuce in a brioche bun. It was lovely just the right amount of chorizo and the chips were unlike any chips I’d had before. I think they were fried in sesame oil which gave them a unique taste that reminded me of tiger bread. My mum had the Caesar Salad with chicken, my aunt had the Southern Fried Burger and my cousin had The Cheese Burger. It fair to say that we were all pleased with our meal.
The food was brought to us within about fifteen minutes of ordering maybe slightly longer I wasn’t constantly checking the time. Our burgers were presented on a slate like plate with the fries in a separate little pot which was nice and simple unlike other eateries who can go overboard with the presentation.
As for drinks O-M-G the choice seemed almost endless. Not only was there a regular cocktail menu, which was reasonably priced. There was also a separate menu with cocktails for £3. The others ordered from this menu at first and expected them to be on the small side but they were pleasantly surprised when it was in fact full sized drinks. Me being me choose to order from the regular drinks menu, getting the coconut caipiroska. It was very nice indeed but those are the ones I forgot to take a photo of.
Other drinks I tried were the passionfruit daiquiri which was massive. It took me about an hour to drink it. Then the Mai Tai which is my favourite cocktail of all time so it had a lot to live up to and I am happy to report that it was delicious.
The service and waiting staff were lovely and made sure we were happy with our meals. They didn’t hurry us out to free up the table. At one point one of the bar staff asked us to settle our bill as they were changing over to the evening cashiers but didn’t make us feel like we had to go.
If you’re in Glasgow I would recommend checking out One Up, if you’re looking for a yummy burger and cocktails this is the place for you!! It’s good value for money especially is you get one of the deals of 2 burgers and a bottle of house wine for £15.
Have you tried One Up? What did you think of it?
