Alice of Notebooks and Glasses very kindly nominated me for A Bloggers Recognition Award. I was so over the moon when she tweeted her nominations, and I want to take a little second to thank her. Alice writes about chronic illness which I can relate to 100%.
What makes the Bloggers Recognition Award so special, is that it is other bloggers and writers who are saying “hey I like your blog, you deserve some recognition for the hard work you do”
RULES FOR THIS AWARD

How My Blog Started
I first started blogging in 2011 after a friend encouraged me to write, he suggested it as i was stuck at home due to my illness and disability. From then I’ve had a few different blog names, I’ve scrapped and started over countless times. Last year i had a complete rebrand. I bought a new domain and went self hosted. I settled on the idea of writing about whatever I want, rather than trying to fight into one particular niche I decided to write about my illness, disability and parenting with little bits of lifestyle related posts thrown in for good measure.
Advice for New Bloggers
1) Don’t Be Afraid To Self Promote
The best way to get people to read your posts is to share the heck out of them. I always thought that tweeting about it once maybe twice would be enough to get people to read what I was talking about. I learned recently that if you WANT more people to see your posts you really DO have to share, share, share then share some more.
Personally I use twitter over other social media platform to share my posts. On the day I publish the post I will share it on all my social media platforms, pinning it to the top of Facebook and twitter and adding a clickable link to my Instagram page. Then for the first week I’ll share the link on twitter every day (I use buffer to schedule tweets). After the first week I’ll share it maybe another 2 or 3 times. I also use a plugin on my site to share older posts in my archive (posts that are older than 30 days).
2) Be True To Yourself
I found when I first started blogging a long time ago that I was trying to be like the bloggers I loved reading and felt that I had to pigeon hole myself into only one category. Which meant that I wasn’t being true to myself, i was forcing posts and was focusing on quantity of quality. As soon as I realised that I’ve been more inspired to write and share my experiences with the world.
I nominate Leah of xLoveLeahx, she’s an incredible person, she writes about plus size fashion, life and chronic illness. I’ve been an avid reader of hers for a long time. She had a tough 2017 and I want her to know that she is awesome and I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings to her blog.
I also nominate Britt of Alternatively Speaking. Britt is an amazingly talent writer from Canada who created the 12 day Of Blogmas series I was involved which introduced me to some new blogs to follow.
Please check out the blogs I’ve nominated and show them some love.
