The Scariest Thing I’ve Seen – Blogtober 2018 – Day 23

With halloween just around the corner what better way to celebrate it than talking about the scariest thing I’ve seen. In my almost 40 years on this planet I have seen some scary stuff, witness car accidents, visited haunted venues or watched a scary movie. However when I look back and recall a memory. There is one that stands out more than anything else!!

I can’t recall my exact age at the time, I think I was about 6 or 7. It was one of the weekends I was staying at my fathers house. At some point during the course of my stay I watched a scary movie that he has rented from the video shop.

That scary movie is the cult classic Poltergeist (1982). (Warning may contain spoilers!) In case you haven’t seen the film, the synopsis on IMDB says

Life is very pleasant for the close-knit Freeling family until a host of otherworldly forces invades their peaceful suburban home. It starts with just an odd occurrence or two, but soon their house is turned into a swirling supernatural sideshow. The forces at work are anything but friendly, and if the luckless Freelings don’t clear out soon, they’ll all be swept off into nightmarish chaos!

There’s one scene that sticks out the most, a scene that I can still picture vividly. There’s a guy. I think he was one of the supernatural investigators who come into the house. He’s standing in looking in a mirror, he seems something hanging from his face and pulls on it. Then next thing all of the skin from his face has gone it’s just blood and bone.

If I were to watch the movie now it probably wouldn’t affect me but as a young child I was so scared, to the point I ended up having nightmares for some time.

As you can imagine my mum wasn’t best pleased about me watching a horror film at such a young age

Tell me what is the scariest thing you’ve seen.

    1. Lol. It’s weird how old cult horror films are less scary now. I remember my mum telling me how scary the exorcist was then when I watched it in my late teens I thought what’s the big deal this isn’t that bad. X
