Alice of Notebooks and Glasses has kindly nominated me for A Sunshine Blogger Award, which is such a surprise and to say that I am thrilled is an understatement!! What makes this nomination special is that it’s bloggers nominating other bloggers who have helped the community and brought a smile to their face through the posts the share. At the time I received my award nomination I feeling a little down about my writing but the award has given me a new sense of purpose and has made me more focused on getting my voice out there and heard.
On her blog Alice writes about living a positive life with chronic pain, where she shares her own experiences with living in constant pain and tips to help others learn to cope with their own pain and enjoy the things they love. I enjoy reading Alice’s posts especially her gratitude posts, its hard to remain positive but Alice has shown me that it is possible to be grateful. I want to take a moment to thank Alice and if you haven’t seen any of her posts please pop over and check them out.
Which celebrity would you love to feature on your blog and why?
I would love to have someone like Busy Phillips. She is so relatable, funny and down to earth (if you haven’t watched her instastories you’re not living!). She’s not afraid to show emotion and tell her followers how even for famous people life can be a battle. I’d love to talk to her about her life and the challenges she’s faced with mental health and writing a book.
What’s been your biggest blogging challenge so far?
Finding the courage to be open and honest about my experiences with chronic illness, mental health and parenting. I want to be a voice for other disabled mothers and not hold back.
Where is your favourite place to write your blog posts?
I don’t have a one place I favour over others. Ideally I would have a little home office where I could fill the walls around my desk with inspiration quotes and pictures, however 9 times out of 10 I’m sitting on the armchair or sofa with my phone rather than my laptop. Alex usually climbing over me trying to see what I’m doing or trying press the screen.
Which is your most popular blog post, and why do you think this is?
My most popular post since launching nicolajogston.com has been Costochondritis How It Really Feels. I think it’s been so popular as I was describing how it felt to suffer with a constant pain in my chest.
What’s your favourite piece of blogging equipment (app, IT equipment, stationery etc.)?
The WordPress app for IOS has been very helpful (when it syncs) I can use it on the go and do surprisingly so much with it from writing, editing, scheduling and publishing posts as well as the new feature of stock photos. Another great thing about the app is that I can actually maintain my site and monitor my stats.
If you could learn any skill, what would it be?
I would love to learn how to sew with a sewing machine. I’ve got one that I inherited from my mother in law but I’ve never used it yet. Mostly because I need help to thread the needle but I want to learn to use it and make lots of cool things like bags and pillow cushions.
What would be the name you give to a future pet?
This is a tough question. It would depend on the animal. If we were to get another dog I would like to call them Skye or Iona.
Do you prefer being by the seaside or in a city?
Without a shadow of a doubt the sea! Cities are good for a small amount of time but eventually I start to feel overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of the crowds. The seaside is so calming. I could sit and listen to the waves crashing against the shore for hours.
What is the one thing you could not give up in life?
The emotional side of me would say my husband and son, which is 100% true but where is the entertainment and excitement in that?
There is a few things that I couldn’t give up in life from tea to chocolate but I guess if I had to choose only one thing it would be my phone/internet. Being indoors most of the time my phone and internet is my lifeline to the outside world. It’s how I communicate with family and friends, how I write and interact with fellow writers online.
What food do you detest?
Hands down brussels sprouts. They’re horrible and are always over cooked and end up mushy and stink the house out. I feel sick thinking about them
